TESTING
SunStrand employs sophisticated basic link and channel testing
and certification processes to ensure quality and consistency
of all installations.
SunStrand technicians utilize the latest
test equipment to perform DC loop resistance, Continuity,
Length, Attenuation, NEXT, FEXT, ELFEXT, Noise, and TDR
copper testing according to TIA/EIA TSB67.
SunStrand employs the most sophisticated technology to ensure
integrity and performance testing on all optical fiber systems
according to standards established by ANSI/TIA/EIA 568-A. SunStrand
utilizes Power meters, light source, and OTDR equipment in order
to test for Attenuation, Connector and Splice Loss, OTDR, and
Bandwidth in Interbuilding backbone, Intrabuilding backbone,
and Horizontal cabling.
DOCUMENTATION
Properly documented systems: maximize network performance, reduce
maintenance costs, and allow for future network expansion. SunStrand
provides an alpha numeric labeling system for all outlets, termination
points, and pathways. These numbers are then transferred on
to CAD As-built drawings to help simplify moves, adds, and changes.
OUTSIDE PLANT
SunStrand designed and built two (2) state of the art fiber
optic trucks for the City of Chicago's 911 project. SunStrand
purchased these vehicles in addition to specialized equipment
to insure that the City of Chicago's mission critical 911 cabling
was designed and installed for 100% capacity. These trucks continue
to facilitate SunStrand with installing, splicing, and pulling
outside plant optical fiber for future projects.
TECHNICAL RESOURCES
SunStrand's design team is comprised of Registered Communications
Distribution Designers (RCDD), Estimators, and Project Managers.
SunStrand implements industry update
training once a month. This training is based on the Building
Industry Consulting Services International (BICSI) recommendations
and curriculum is developed from the BICSI Telecommunications
Cabling Installation (TCI) Manual and the Telecommunications
Distribution Methods (TDM) Manual. Technicians are trained through
the IBEW CJATC, BICSI Certified Installer Program, and Various
Manufacturers.
SAFETY
SunStrand implements a "Zero Tolerance" safety policy
to ensure safety for any individual near or around the project
premises. Every employee is given a company safety plan and
has completed all appropriate training. SunStrand emphasizes
the importance of safety at all training meetings. SunStrand
employees have been educated on such topics as confined space,
proper use of personal protective equipment, Material Safety
Data Sheets (MSDS), and first aid.
